Edwardsville Wikis Project

Since 2008, we have joined the world of wikis. These are web pages which can be viewed and altered by members of a wiki group, anywhere in the world. Our children have been showing off their work, and learning from other children, by uploading their work in the form of text, pictures, sound recordings and video.

Thanks to the dedication and hard work of Mrs Hawke, and an IT Adviser friend in New South Wales (Australia), our children have been working together with primary-aged children across three continents!

The potential for wikis to provide motivation from a real, world-wide audience, and to enable learning from communication across the globe is huge - we are very excited to be a part of this.

The work is developing fast, so this page will be out of date by the time I've written it. However, the projects which have been going on so far have been:

WALIA (from WALes and AustraLIA): children across the school have been linked with primary schools in different parts of Australia, and have been working together on shared projects, such as "What are our homes made from?"

cuddie-cuddie: children have been sharing traditional tales from Celtic Wales, Aboriginal Australia and Native Americans.

Murrumsat Science Camp: children here, in the USA and Australia have been conducting environmental science studies and sharing their findings across the web.

taff kids: local schools feeding Afon Taf have now joined in.
Taff Kids hosts a Space Camp project - All of our classes, and schools across Merthyr, New South Wales and Louisiana have been undertaking the same tasks, and sharing their completed work.

Up to now, we have restricted access to view the children's work only to participating schools. There's a taster of some of this fantastic work on the What We've Done pages.
